RENÉE NEWS - DECEMBER 2003

Guess who's working them lil' Oscars?

10 Weeks To Go
23 Days To The Close Of Nominations

Gee it got quiet.

Want to know the difference between Miramax and everyone else?

This morning (12/26), Renee Zellweger was on The View. And while it is true that Sir Ian McKellan is doing Conan and Bill Macy is doing Leno tonight, both have their noses up against the awards glass and need to build profile to have a shot.

Zellweger does not.

But she's out working on the day after Christmas. (Actually, I think they may have pre-taped the show, but still, who got the booking when others did not?)

Go get'em Renée ...

BRIDGET JONES
[dailyrecord.co.uk] Dec 9 2003

THERE were two good reasons for Renee Zellweger to look happy at the premiere of her latest film, Cold Mountain.

The Bridget Jones's Diary star has just finished filming the sequel, The Edge Of Reason, and will finally be able to give up the diet of pizza and doughnuts she needed to balloon from a size eight to a 14.

And she's called in a team of trainers to help her get back the slim figure she had in musical Chicago. Zellweger positively beamed at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, posing for pictures alongside co-stars Jude Law, Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman, In Cold Mountain, Law plays a war-weary wounded Confederate soldier fleeing the army and traveling on foot back to his mountain home to be reunited with his sweetheart, played by Kidman.

[news.bbc.co.uk] 12/8/2003

The world première of Cold Mountain, which stars Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger, took place in Hollywood on Sunday night.

All three stars attended the screening, with other guests including actor Adrien Brody and  singer Ricky Martin.

Cold Mountain, which has been tipped for Oscar success, is a civil-war era drama starring Law as a wounded soldier heading home to his sweetheart.

It is directed by Anthony Minghella, best known for The EnglishPatient.

All three lead actors - Kidman, Law and Zellweger - are expected to land Oscar nominations for their performances in the movie, which is based on the book by Charles Frazier.

The cast spent 10 months filming in remote regions of Romania.

Reports of the death of Renee Zellweger and rocker Jack White's relationship are greatly exaggerated: The couple was spotted ring-shopping Saturday.

A loose-lipped Left Coaster tells us they "spent hours" at jeweler Neil Lane's exclusive Los Angeles store.

So, is there a big announcement on the way? A rep for the newly zaftig Zellweger wasn't returning phone calls yesterday.

But we can tell you that the "Cold Mountain" actress didn't leave the store with a rock on her finger. However, she did splurge on a vintage scarab - complete with diamond chain - blessed by the Kabbalah Center's Yehuda Berg.

Zellweger will miss tonight's New York premiere of "Cold Mountain," because she is flying to Thailand to join the cast of "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason."

The stunning actress lucky enough to share the kiss with Zellweger is former REAL WORLD LONDON castmember JACINDA BARRETT.

The eagerly-anticipated movie, set to hit screens next year (04), also features British actors HUGH GRANT and COLIN FIRTH.

Cinderella Men
When Meg Ryan's boyfriends attack!
[filmforce.ign.com]
December 04, 2003

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Craig Bierko (The Thirteenth Floor, The Long Kiss Goodnight) is poised to co-star in director Ron Howard's next film, Cinderella Man. The Universal Pictures/Miramax Films co-venture is toplined by Russell Crowe. Renee Zellweger has long been attached as the female lead but her name hasn't appeared in the recent trade reports about this project.

Howard's Imagine Entertainment will produce the period biopic along with his fellow '70s sitcom star-turned-filmmaker, Penny Marshall.

Akiva Goldsman, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Howard's A Beautiful Mind, penned the script.

THR says Cinderella Man "tells the tale of real-life heavyweight boxing champ Jim Braddock (Crowe). During the 1930s, Braddock was an aging boxer who made a comeback while trying to provide for his family during the Great Depression. Bierko will play Max Baer, Braddock's toughest challenger, a world heavyweight champion renowned for having killed two men in the ring."
