Renée Zellweger and Jordan's Queen Rania
At first glance, the beautiful queen of an exotic Middle Eastern nation and an actress best known for playing lovelorn singleton Bridget Jones might seem an unlikely pairing. Jordan's glamorous Queen Rania and Texan belle Renee Zellweger proved they had plenty in common when they met up on the shores of the Dead Sea this week, however.

The two women, who share a commitment to children's causes, were pictured together as they kicked off a new initiative designed to help disadvantaged youngsters all over the planet. Both are hoping the Global Women's Action Network For Children will find success in its mission to combat high maternal and infant mortality rates in poor countries, while also guaranteeing access to education for young girls everywhere.

Female activists and political leaders from all over the planet jetted into Jordan to show their backing for the launch. And once the conference got underway its elegant hostess, who is herself a mother of four, delivered an impassioned speech calling on all those present to do everything in their power to build a better future for mums and daughters around the world.

"The Global Women's Action Network For Children was launched to tackle some of humanity's oldest tragedies: the needless deaths of millions of mothers and babies every year and the wasted potential of tens of millions of girls who are kept out of school," she said.

Renee: 'Don't get married, Nic!'

Nicole Kidman may be just days away from getting married but pal Renee Zellweger is apparently urging her to call the whole thing off.

Renee has reportedly told Nic to cancel her imminent wedding to country singer Keith Urban with less than two weeks to go.

It comes after her own marriage to US music star Kenny Chesney failed after just four months.

The Bridget Jones star blames Kenny's workaholic tendencies for her break-up and has told Nic it's impossible to know if it is going wrong until it is too late.

But it's unlikely Nicole will take her advice - the church is booked and the 80 guests including Russell Crowe and Naomi Watts have been invited.

The 38-year-old has even reserved every helicopter in Sydney to make sure the paparazzi don't get a look in.

More to 'Miss Potter' than cuddly bunnies
USA Today

Beatrix Potter was not all about cuddly bunnies and cute woodland creatures, according to "Miss Potter," coming to movie theaters in December. The Victorian-era writer and illustrator of children's stories was also a naturalist and an early feminist.

Renee Zellweger stars as the British-born Potter, with Ewan McGregor as Norman Warne, Potter's publisher and secret fiancé, and Emily Watson as Millie Warne, Potter's closest confidante. Chris Noonan directs.

"Her character was like a modern-day woman with modern values transported into a Victorian milieu," Noonan says. "She had to battle against extraordinary odds and opposition to get to where she went."

Bridget Jones' Diary author Helen Fielding, who at the age of 48 is pregnant with her second child, has revealed that she is to revive everyone's favorite singleton, Bridget Jones, in an upcoming book - the third installment in the series.

Currently, Fielding is writing a Bridget Jones column for the UK's The Independent newspaper, which when she goes on maternity leave this July, will be collected into a book.

The Daily Mail reports that at age 39, Bridget Jones will be pregnant as well, and that she will be expecting Daniel Cleaver's baby, to the dismay of millions of Bridget's fans.

Both books - Bridget Jones' Diary, and Bridget Jones' Diary: The Edge of Reason were made into blockbuster films, starring actors Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant.
