Renée: 'I Never Imagined a Day Like This'Renée Zellweger with Jay Leno on May 24, 2005

After first taking a look at the stars on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame in 1988, Renée Zellweger got one of her own on Tuesday.

"I was so excited to be here, and I had my fingers crossed really tightly that one day I could participate in some small way in this medium that I love so much," she said at her unveiling. "But I got to tell you that I never ever imagined a day like this, or that I would be invited to be part of this legacy."

The native Texan, 36, whose new movie with Russell Crowe, Cinderella Man, is being called the year's first serious Oscar contender, has already had quite a year. She married country music star Kenny Chesney in a small ceremony May 9 on the Caribbean island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

During an appearance on Tuesday night's Tonight Show, Jay Leno displayed a wedding photo of Zellweger and her new hubby on the beach and joked: "And you still have not seen him without his hat, is that true?" to which Zellweger beamed and replied: "Isn't he cute?"

When asked if it was love at first sight between the newlyweds (who first met in January at NBC's Concert of Hope tsunami telethon), Zellweger said: "No, I was concentrating. I was doing my job. … I mean it was nice. He came over and said, 'Hi' afterward."

A friend of Zellweger's told PEOPLE that the actress, hoping to meet Chesney, "was going to pass him a note" at the telethon. But in a bit of high school meets Hollywood, the couple's respective publicists chatted and told Chesney of Zellweger's interest. "When the broadcast wrapped, he went over and said, 'I hear you are trying to pass me a note – don't let the principal find out,'" says the friend. The two then exchanged phone numbers and e-mail addresses, and the couple began corresponding.

As for meeting the country star's family, Zellweger said it was "sometime at the beginning of the summer I guess. They're so great, such nice people," then added: "Uncle Butch, I owe you a phone call."

Zellweger explained that when she met Chesney's uncle, he jokingly asked her if she had a job or if she was on welfare.

"I told him no, I was technically currently unemployed," she told Leno. "So Uncle Butch I'm going to call you tomorrow because today I got a job and I am employed and I will call you tomorrow and tell you all about it."

Her upcoming film Cinderella Man, opens nationwide on June 3.

Bridget Jones actress Renee Zellweger said she was "dumbfounded" to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.Renee Zellweger

The 36-year-old actress told Tuesday's unveiling ceremony she had dreamed of appearing on the Walk of Fame since her first trip to Hollywood in 1988.

"I used two rolls of film on just these stars alone, and I was so excited to be here," she said.

"I never imagined a day like this or that I would be invited to be part of this legacy," she added.

Zellweger, who has appeared in the Bridget Jones films, Chicago and won an Oscar for her role in the American Civil War epic Cold Mountain, became the 2,286th star on the famed pavement.

It sits alongside those of cinema icons such as Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, and her Cold Mountain co-star Nicole Kidman

"The reality of this just hit me a few seconds ago and I am dumbfounded," she said,

The unveiling of Zellweger's star came 10 days before the opening of her next film Cinderella Man, in which she co-stars with Russell Crowe.

She plays the wife of boxer James Braddock, played by Crowe, who won boxing's world heavyweight championship in a major upset during the Great Depression.

Earlier this month, Zellweger also married country music singer Kenny Chesney in a small ceremony on the Caribbean island of St John.

The couple met at a benefit for tsunami relief in January where Chesney was singing and Zellweger was answering telephones.

RENEE ZELLWEGER has dropped her notoriously private stance to gush about her new husband, singer KENNY CHESNEY.

The OSCAR-winner always remained tight-lipped over her previous relationships with JIM CARREY, GEORGE CLOONEY and WHITE STRIPES rocker JACK WHITE, but since her shock 9 May (05) wedding to the country star, she is happy to discuss her love.

Zellweger and Chesney wed on the Caribbean island of St John after a whirlwind four month romance (begsJAN05).

She gushes, "I haven't had time to really sit down and absorb it all, but I'm very, very happy.

"I've met someone who understands me and my life, what makes me happy and what's important to me - and that's invaluable.

"And he is really cute."

Newlywed country star KENNY CHESNEY dedicated a song to his new wife RENEE ZELLWEGER last night (17MAY05) after collecting the Home Entertainer of the Year gong at the 40th annual ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS.

Chesney is overwhelmed he's beaten leading nominee TIM McGRAW to the prestigious honour, which came just eight days after his shock marriage to the BRIDGET JONES' DIARY star, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to movie commitments.

But he paid tribute to his absent wife by singing ANYTHING BUT MINE at the Mandalay Bay Resort ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He told fans at the bash, "I go on stage every night at 9:15 but our show starts at 2:30 in the afternoon because all the fans are out there in the parking lot, partying and got our music cranked up. And I want to thank ya'll."

Kenny Chesney talks about proposing Renee Zellweger

Kenny Chesney's proposal to Renee Zellweger apparently was no "candlelight dinner and bent knee" affair. In fact, Chesney says there was no proposal.

"She wouldn't let me, really. She just told me to name a town and place and she'd be there," the 37-year-old country singer told reporters Tuesday after the 40th Academy of Country Music Awards show.

Zellweger and Chesney were wed May 9 in a small ceremony on the Caribbean island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was the first marriage for both.

The couple met at the Concert of Hope tsunami relief benefit on Jan. 15, where Chesney was singing and Zellweger was answering telephones.

Zellweger, 36, won a best supporting actress Oscar for 2003's "Cold Mountain." Her screen credits also include "Chicago" and "Bridget Jones's Diary."

Asked what it's like being married, Chesney replied: "To be honest with you, it's not all that different. I'm just not searching anymore."

Chesney, who won entertainer of the year at the awards, said Zellweger had to skip the show because she's making a movie.

Kenny/Renee: You just dial 800-ROMANCE

So how secret were the Kenny Chesney/Renee Zellweger nuptials? Kenny didn't tell his band about Monday's wedding until two nights before.

They were all on stage at a Fort Lauderdale concert. As the show was closing, Kenny spoke to band members through their in-ear monitors, telling them while they were still playing that he'd be getting married Monday, his publicist said.

Band members weren't at Kenny's private ceremony at his estate in St. John's in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In fact, very few people were. Only about 45 attended, no celebrities, just close friends and family for the bride and groom and some of Kenny's island friends.

You've heard about Renee's Carolina Herrera dress. Kenny wore a white buttoned shirt, natural-colored linen pants. Both were barefoot. And yes, the ceremony was a brief 15-minute outdoors affair on top of a hill on his property.

Laughter and tears all around. And get this — no engagement ring. Both just have simple wedding bands.

The reception was a cold buffet indoors, also on Kenny's property.

''I am so incredibly happy,'' Kenny said in a statement released last night. ''I may well be the luckiest man alive, to be so in love with someone who is so perfect for me. It's just hard to imagine that I'm not going to wake up.''

Despite previous assertions that Kenny and Renee had just met a couple of weeks ago, Kenny's publicist now confirms that they met at a tsunami relief concert in January. The two began a phone/e-mail relationship far more intense that most people's, his publicist said.

''People whose lives are lived on the move — the reality of fitting a life into that life — the processes are different. You fit a lot more into phone calls and e-mails,'' publicist Holly Gleason said.

Those must've been some long e-mails. But I digress.

Any honeymoon would be a short one: Kenny is supposed to be in concert tomorrow night in Little Rock, Ark., and Renee has a movie, Cinderella Man, with Russell Crowe, opening June 3.

Renee Zellweger Weds Singer Kenny Chesney

Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney were married before
friends and family members Monday on St. John in the
U.S. Virgin Islands, according to publicist Nanci Ryder.

It was the first marriage for both, and the bride wore a dress designed by Carolina Herrera.

Country star Chesney, 37, who grew up in east Tennessee, lives on the Caribbean island. The couple met at the Jan. 15 Concert of Hope tsunami relief benefit, where he sang and Zellweger, who turned 36 two weeks ago, took phone pledges.

Monday night's reception was held inside the affluent gated community of Peter Bay, residents said. Sunday night, about 45 guests joined the wedding couple at Rhumb Lines restaurant in downtown Cruz Bay, according to restaurant employees.

It was a more intimate scene than just two weeks ago, when while in Jacksonville, Fla., the Cold Mountain Oscar winner surprised Chesney by bringing him a margarita onstage for his song "When the Sun Goes Down" (a tradition at his shows) and kissing him on the cheek at his April 29 concert, PEOPLE reports.

Afterward, the actress, who grew up in Katy, Texas, told Chesney she'd be in Tennessee, so he invited her to lunch, and on May 2, the two pressed lips over a meal at Chinese restaurant P.F. Chang's near Nashville. "They were rather affectionate ... kissing and stuff," says restaurant manager Sherri Hungerbuhler.

The couple then reconvened at Chesney's sold-out concert in Sunrise, Fla., on May 7. Zellweger quietly watched the show from the sound production area in the back of the arena and then adjourned backstage where she danced and bounced to his music.

One of Chesney's biggest hits is a song called "You Had Me From Hello," a take-off on the famous line "You had me at hello" from Zellweger's breakout 1996 movie role opposite Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire.

The marriage comes eight months after Zellweger split from White Stripes frontman Jack White. She was subsequently linked to singer Damien Rice, and previously had dated Jim Carrey at the time they made the 2000 movie Me, Myself and Irene.

Renee Zellweger No Show at ICP Awards

New York – Everyone was holding their breath at the International Center of Photography’s Infinity Awards on Tuesday night. It wasn’t the fashion-heavy crowd that included Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Zac Posen and Prada escapee Helmut Lang. Actresses Isabella Rossellini, Chloe Sevigny and Claire Danes all looked glamorous, but it wasn’t their presence that had guests on edge. What had us all hyperventilating was that Renee Zellweger, was scheduled to host the evening, just two days after her surprise wedding to country music superstar Kenny Chesney. We hear that Zellweger is a close friend of photographer Bruce Weber, the evening’s honoree. But alas, Renee and her cowboy hat-wearing new husband did not make the scene, so Carolina Herrera, who designed the actress’ wedding dress, was the center of attention, giddily showing photos of the happy couple on the beach.

Kenny and Renee grab a P.F. hang

Some folks having lunch in Cool Springs yesterday were quite surprised to see Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger laughing and canoodling at a corner table.

Indeed, Kenny's publicist confirmed that the two were together at P.F. Chang's. But how do these two even know each other?

Turns out Renee and some friends showed up for Kenny's show Friday night in Jacksonville, Fla., and Kenny's tour manager found Renee backstage and decided to play a joke on the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year.

Every night, the tour manager usually sends a big hairy guy on stage to give Kenny a margarita, but Friday night, Renee walked out with the margarita. And, vamping for the crowd, Renee delivered it with a smile and a smooch.

After the show the two chatted, and Renee mentioned that she would be driving through Nashville, so he said, if you're driving through, I'll buy you lunch. ''She's some kind of cocktail waitress,'' Kenny joked through his publicist. ''I figured lunch was the least I could do for a tip.''

Witnesses say Kenny dressed in his traditional T-shirt, jeans, glasses and ball cap, and Renee also sported a ball cap and glasses and now blonde hair for the outing.

After lunch, Renee got back in her car and left town.

Will there be a sequel? Dunno.
